ChumpCar Canada renews sponsorship agreement with Targa Newfoundland
ST. JOHN’S (March 16, 2017) – For a second year in a row, ChumpCar Canada and Targa Newfoundland has entered into a cross sponsorship agreement. Two of the biggest names in Canadian motorsports will once again promote one another at public functions and at each other’s event.
The agreement provides ChumpCar Canada access to all potential competitors of Targa via promotion on the Targa official website, marketing material, logo placement on banners, and decals of each series on all competitor vehicles during the 16th annual Targa this September.
In return, Targa receives promotion on the ChumpCar Canada website, marketing material being available at all ChumpCar Canada events during the 2017 racing season, a large Targa banner placed within the paddock at each event, and decal placement on all ChumpCar Canada competitor vehicles.
An incentive for competitors in each event is that with the agreement, the overall winner of ChumpCar will receive an entry into Targa in for 2018, and the overall winner in Targa with the least amount of penalty time this year will be able to compete in a ChumpCar event in late 2017 or choose an event during the 2018 racing season.
Robert Giannou, President of Targa Newfoundland, is pleased that another sponsorship agreement has been renewed for the 2017 Targa.
“The agreement last year worked very well. Seeing our decals on the ChumpCar Canada competitors’ vehicles and at the tracks gives Targa promotion we never had before. Being able to pull in new competitors is important for a healthy entry list, and another year for this agreement will continue to do that. It really shows the great motorsports community we have in this country.”
Wendy Edwards, Executive Director of ChumpCar Canada, echoes Giannou’s excitement with the agreement.

Racing is alive and well in Canada and we hope by promoting each other’s events and series that we enlighten and educate even more Canadians about Targa Newfoundland and ChumpCar Canada. The agreements have been hatched at the last couple of Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo’s in Toronto, where ChumpCar Canada, along with Targa, have booths and are regular participants on the discussion Road Racing Panel. Each booth promotes the other’s events and series via decal placement on booth vehicles and other marketing materials available for potential competitors and spectators, while providing a great platform for discussions between counterparts in the racing community in Canada.
Owned and operated by Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, Targa Newfoundland is one of three internationally recognized Targa motorsports events in the world. The 2017 competition will start in St. John’s on September 10th and concludes back in the capital on September 15th. The annual rally will cover more than 1,600 kilometers of the challenging, twisty roads of the central and eastern portion of Newfoundland, including over 440 kilometers of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.
