Targa Newfoundland to be Based out of Southern Burin for 2018 Events

ST. JOHN’S, NL (February 12, 2018) Targa Newfoundland and Targa Bambina were invited back to run stages in Marystown in the fall of 2017.  Meetings this past week with officials in Marystown and surrounding area confirmed that Targa will run the majority of its stages in the Burin Peninsula basing its activities out of Marystown for three nights and four days.

Targa Newfoundland stages will run throughout the Burin Peninsula on a schedule to be confirmed in the coming weeks. Nightly car shows will be held in Marystown, Burin, and other communities.  The influx of competitors for these 2 events together with their support crews and Targa officials will provide a significant economic boost to the area.

Robert Giannou, President of Newfoundland International Motorsports, expressed great satisfaction with the way that the “Targa Days” are evolving. Mayor Sam Synard echoed his comments and added that a local committee under the chairmanship of Deputy Mayor Gary Myles has been appointed and will look after coordinating the many social events to be run during “Targa Days”. He hopes that all communities in the area will coordinate any social events they’re planning with this committee.

Mr. Giannou confirmed the preliminary schedule and requested that any towns wishing to be part of “Targa Days”, please contact Mr. Myles or himself at 709-682-7900 or at rgiannou@targanewfoundland.com. It is hoped to have the schedule finalized by March 1st.

Owned and operated by Newfoundland International Motorsports Limited, Targa Newfoundland is one of three internationally recognized Targa motorsports events in the world. The 2018 competition will start in St. John’s on September 17th and concludes back in the capital on September 21st. The annual rally will cover more than 1,500 kilometers of the challenging, twisty roads of the eastern portion of Newfoundland, including over 400 kilometers of closed-road, flat-out Targa stages.
