Rules & Regs

REVISED AND UPDATED FOR 2025

Targa Newfoundland is a premium motorsport event with a considerable focus on safety, logistics, applicable rules and regulations. Our event is a meeting place for newcomers to the world of motorsports and professionals who have been running their car of choice for many years.

However, past participants of Targa Newfoundland can attest to the fact that our competitors, as well as the communities that host us, treat each other with respect and adhere to the rules. In fact, it’s customary for teams to familiarize themselves with the regulations prior to arriving in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Simplified Rules and Regulations

Targa Newfoundland has simplified the rules and regulations to make them easier for competitors to understand and follow, and easier for organizers to manage. There are three divisions in this legendary event: Targa 1 and 2 and Targa Tour. The competitive Targa 1 and 2 divisions are further grouped by two-wheel and all-wheel-drive vehicles made before or after the year 2000.

Targa Newfoundland divisions:
  • Targa Tour (TT), a non-timed, non-competitive motorsport adventure, top speed 130 kph
  • Targa 1, a competitive event for cars with a minimum of single hoop roll bar, top speed 155 kph
  • Targa 2, a higher speed competition for cars with roll cages, top speed 180 kph

Targa 1 and 2 are broken down into the following groups:

  • Two-wheel drive (2WD) built before or after the year 2000 (Classic or Modern)
  • All-wheel drive (AWD) built before or after the year 2000 (Classic or Modern)
